Government and Military Programs

We are a small business with an experienced team that has worked on more than 200 projects since our founding in 1996. We pride ourselves on the array of projects we've developed. Our team is constantly learning and adapting to meet our clients' requirements.

VPI has system integration capabilities for technology insertion and integration with existing systems. Reverse engineering is also a strength of VPI's engineering staff. VPI meets exacting military standards while working under demanding deadlines similar to those expected by our commercial clients who have strategic goals for quick product launches. Our experience with commercial clients also influences us to focus on cost optimization as we engage in government programs.

For government clients who need to develop prototype systems before engaging in full programs, there are a number of other transaction agreement (OTA) consortiums that VPI is a part of, including Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) and Undersea Technology Innovation Consortium (UTIC). VPI was selected to be on the Joint Enterprise - Research Development Acquisition Program (JE-RDAP) IDIQ contract. VPI has experience working within the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR). VPI has DCAA approved rates.

Our size allows us to be agile and develop prototypes quickly and efficiently. For example, we obtained a contract to develop a radiation detection system that will be used by the U.S. military and by our allies. We completed prototypes for six different products within eight months.  

Application of Commercial Development Practices with Government Programs

Experience with developing commercial systems and products has given VPI the ability to be nimble and quickly develop prototype systems and manage the process it takes to move prototypes into full system production and sustainment. Working in both commercial and government worlds has helped VPI develop best practices and technological expertise that benefit projects and programs in both realms.  

An example of a commercial project that brings expertise and best practices to government programs is the commercial ship tracking system developed by VPI for a commercial ship tracking company. This system was installed on the International Space Station in July 2016. This system receives and maps the collision-avoidance Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals from commercial vessels. The software for this system provides a global view of all commercial ships in the world, updated each time the ISS passes over and the system collects AIS and location data.
