Thermal Radar imaging system

Imager and Camera System Design

Image sensors are used in multiple ways and in different types of products and technologies.  Both analog and digital devices can be developed to use image sensors, such as camera phones, camera modules, digital cameras, optical mouse devices, medical imaging equipment, thermal imaging devices, sonar, radar, etc.   There are two main types of image sensors.  One is a CCD, a charge-coupled device, and the other is a CMOS sensor which is an active-pixel sensor.  CMOS sensors tend to be used more widely for consumer products because of lower cost and lower power consumption in battery-powered devices.

During the first few years of our business, VPI was one of the early adopters of CMOS technology, incorporating alpha-release CMOS image sensors into a new bar code reader technology to help prove out the technology.  Over the years, VPI has gained particular expertise in designing systems that incorporate imagers and camera sensors.  Since 1996, we have developed dozens of products that leverage imager and camera technologies.

Using imager sensor systems, VPI has created prototypes and products for the following types of systems:

  • Bar code readers
  • Medical diagnostic systems
  • Blood sample analysis
  • Medical inspection systems
  • Human skin and tissue analysis systems
  • Manufacturing inspection systems
  • Livestock evaluation systems
  • Timekeeping systems
  • Security systems
  • Facial recognition
  • Thermal imaging
  • Delivery truck monitoring systems

VPI’s significant experience developing products that require image sensors and camera system design sets us apart.  Customers can trust that VPI will deliver high-quality engineering and design work.  Contact us to discuss your product ideas!
